A vacant lot located in a community built on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean – a very promising start. The clients, an electrical engineer and his wife, wished to be very involved in the design and construction of their home, however there were considerations: the design review board dictated that a tile roof and Mediterranean style must be used in all construction within Palos Verdes Estates.

The solution was a Spanish Modern with second story balconies and interior windows overlooking a hacienda style central great room. Plenty of light comes from the wall of windows opposite the staircase and large skylight, and the exterior reflects a classic, timeless, Mediterranean ideal that is also maintained inside, with the use of dark mahogany details contrasting the clean, white plaster walls.
