LED lights are an increasingly popular addition to the interior decor and exterior landscape design of luxury modern homes. With their wide variety of colors, LEDs can turn a room into a sensory experience, and set the mood in both indoor and outdoor spaces. Brightening up walkways, delineating the borders of rooftop terraces, lighting up swimming pools, underlighting tables, bars, and fire features, and illuminating glass walls are some of the many ways LED lights can be used in a home’s decor, design, and function. Here, the lighted exterior of our Summitridge Drive house features an array of LED lights, from the blue and purple accents set amongst the landscaping, to a white halo glowing around the base of the fire pit.

And in the vast, open volume that is the heart of our Bundy Drive house, indirect lighting is created with LEDs set inside of the ceiling soffits.

Organic LEDs (OLEDs) are the latest version of LED technology, and they feature organic compounds in their design, making them more recyclable and more environmentally friendly than regular LEDs. OLEDs produce less heat, eliminating the need for diffusers, the white light they produce is closer to real sunlight, and they’re free from the ultra violet rays and UV radiation present in small amounts in LEDs. However, OLEDs are not as durable as traditional LEDs, nor as bright, and currently they’re more expensive. What makes them uniquely desirable is their paper thin construction and extreme flexibility. OLEDs can be bent into almost any shape, making them perfect for use in the most abstract of chandeliers and indirect lighting designs.

Individual OLED lights strung together create a hanging lamp that complements the angular lines in our Summitridge Drive house.

Home movie theaters, TV lounges, and game rooms are great spaces to play with LED lighting, as the lively colors signal that work is done and it’s time for relaxation, entertainment, and fun. LEDs also seamlessly fit into high tech homes. They can be controlled remotely via smartphone, and favorite color schemes and light levels for specific rooms and events like parties or movie nights can be pre-set, saved, and activated with the touch of a button.

Indoor pools, spas, saunas, and massage rooms become otherworldly immersive retreats when infused with colored LED lights. The sense of sanctuary provided by these wellness spaces is heightened as the colors bathing the rooms turn them into transformative and rejuvenating portals.

The intimate room housing an indoor counter-current swimming pool at Bundy Drive feels like a secluded grotto with marble stone walls and moonlight-esque lighting.

Powder rooms are another great place to play with LED lighting, as these rooms, which are usually small, offer the chance to experiment with fun and fanciful designs. At Summitridge Drive, the same powder room can be a restful oasis or have an invigorating, flashy, nightclub feel. Customizable LED lights allow each person to choose the experience that best fits their mood.

As LEDs are extremely durable and energy efficient (according to a build.com article, one LED bulb can withstand up to 20 years of average household use), and some are water resistant, they’re the perfect solution for adding accent lighting inside of pools and fountains, and lighting the exteriors and entryways of homes year around.
